Pride and Honor

Mount Samat National Shrine (Tagalog pronunciation: [samat]) or Dambana ng Kagitingan (Shrine of Valour) is a historical shrine located near the summit of Mount Samat in the town of Pilár, Province of Bataan, in the Republic of the Philippines. The memorial shrine complex was built to honor and remember the gallantry of Filipino and American soldiers who fought during World War II.

Consisting of a Colonnade and the large Memorial Cross, the park was commissioned in 1966 by then-President and dictator Ferdinand Marcos, for the 25th Anniversary of WW2.[1] The white Memorial Cross stands as a remembrance to the soldiers who fought and lost their lives in the Battle of Bataan. The shrine complex also includes a war museum with a wide array of collections from paintings of the Philippine heroes, to armaments used by the Filipino, American and Japanese forces during the battle.

From the colonnade and the cross, there is a panoramic view of Bataan, Corregidor Island and on a clear day, the city of Manilasituated about 50 km (31 mi) across Manila Bay.

BANG FOR THE BUCK – Makeup Brushes for Beginners

Nothing beats the feeling of having purchase something so cheap yet so good! In this post I will share with you guys my thoughts about the 10 pc synthetic makeup brush set that I bought from Prettyangelshoppe (see their Instagram account for more details).

Here is the first impression video + demo that I posted on YouTube:

BANG FOR THE BUCK – First Impression Review – 10 pc Synthetic Brush Set from Prettyangelshoppe

The 10 pc set includes:

5 FACE BRUSHES

And 5 EYE BRUSHES

A CLOSER LOOK

Overall, I think this set is super worth the price of P350 (it was on flash sale, 50% off and free shipping last July 28, the deal was exclusive at their Shopee store) heck even with the regular price of P700 I’d still purchase this, too!

8 Makeup Stuff Worth Having

The key to achieving glorious makeup is using the right tools to apply it. In this post, I featured the most useful things I have in my kit. They are not necessarily must-haves, but I’d say these babies will definitely amp up your makeup game. Most of these can be a bit pricey but a true makeup junkie knows where to find dupes (Am I right? haha). So if you wanna know what these are, read on below.

WHAT IT IS:

A mirror which has a base and a magnified side.

WHAT IS IT FOR?

We all know what mirrors are for. :p

Makeup compacts, palettes and even lip gloss packaging nowadays often comes with a mirror. But some makeup routines involve the use of your two hands so it is important to have a mirror na pwede mong ilapag at hindi mo na kailangan hawakan. The magnified side naman is super useful when you need to see things closer like when applying eyeliner, falsies and mascara.

WHAT IT IS:

Hair velcro sheets.

WHAT IS IT FOR?

The function of these sheets is to hold your hair into place while you do your makeup, specifically around the forehead area.

WHERE I GOT MINE:

Landmark Dept. Store, roughly around Php20 for a pair

WHAT IT IS:

A makeup remover.

WHAT IS IT FOR?

Removing makeup that your trusty ‘ol bath soap cannot.

Also very useful when cleaning up around your winged eyeliner, eye shadow fallout, etc. Use with cotton pads or swabs.

WHERE I GOT MINE:

This actually came as a freebie from the bag my Tita bought from Alyana Martinez. I checked the Nippon website and it was around Php90.

WHAT IT IS:

A beauty sponge.

WHAT IS IT FOR?

Applying and blending liquid stuff. (but can also be used for powder)

Personally, I find using a damp beauty sponge to apply my foundation and blending my concealer the best way of getting a perfect coverage. It can also be used in baking and applying other stuff in liquid form such as bronzer, highlighter, blush on, etc.

WHERE I GOT MINE:

Vetafs Superstore, Php149

Side note: Yes, this is a fake Beauty Blender buuut let me just tell you that it works sooo well I can’t seem to put it down, I use it aaalll the time! I love it!

WHAT IT IS:

A powder puff.

WHAT IS IT FOR?

Applying powder.

Another use: just slide your ring and pinky finger under the strap thingie, to avoid hand to face skin contact when doing other people’s makeup.

WHAT IT IS:

False eyelashes.

WHAT IS IT FOR?

Creating drama in the eyelashes area. 😀

There are certain occasions when the power of your most amazing mascara isn’t just enough to step up your eyelashes game. This is when falsies come to the rescue. Now, I know wearing these things can be quite intimidating. What if I cannot see, or what if it’s too heavy or what if it comes off? The secret is to find a pair that is made of human hair, not plastic, and one that has a thin band and of course investing in a great eyelash glue.

WHERE I GOT MINE:

Vetafs Superstore, Php55 for 10 pairs (i know, right?)

WHAT IT IS:

Makeup brushes.

WHAT IS IT FOR?

Applying makeup. (duh, hahaha)

I cannot stress enough how important it is to invest in good makeup brushes. However, you don’t need to get the whole lot of it. Look for brushes that can multitask. For example, one that can be used to apply both liquid and powder foundations or both blusher and contour powder and highlighter, eye shadow and concealer, etc.

WHERE I GOT MINE:

Kalm Cosmetics at The Ramp Crossings TriNoma branch, Real Techniques Core Collection and Starter Set, Php1,050 each

WHAT IT IS:

A brush cleaning tool made out of silicone.

WHAT IS IT FOR?

Deep cleaning your makeup brushes.

The idea is, after wetting and putting soap, to use the scruffy part as a board to scrub your brush bristles against.

WHERE I GOT MINE:

Baclaran LRT shopping mall, Php90

I hope you guys find this post informative. I’ll see you on my next post! xo

My Love for Makeup

Find something you’re passionate about and go wild with it. I have loved makeup since the first time I laid my hands on that eye shadow palette na tig 40 pesos na nabili ko sa Wego noong 3rd year high school palang ako, naaalala ko kulay silver, grey at black na shimmery pa yon, HAHAHA. Ever since, I have never stopped honing my skill and loving the craft. Today, I am still in the process of learning because hey, there is always something new to learn! I am expanding my horizon and gaining new experiences. And I cannot stress enough how happy I am na the people closest to my heart are behind me in this adventure. Support means so much lalo na when there are people who try to bring you down and belittle your ambition. I am not expecting everyone to appreciate what I do because I know we all want different things in life. In the same light I think people should understand and respect that this is what I love. I should not be shamed or laughed at just because I do not aspire to be a doctor or a lawyer or a CEO or a millionaire. And please, enough with the “hindi ka yayaman or kikita dyan” thing. Not that I do this solely for the money but you people saying that should be introduced to Michelle Phan, Marlena of Makeup Geek and Huda Kattan of Huda Beauty among others. And also, the “puro makeup ang landi lang at ang pangit kase kaya nag me-makeup o ang tunay na maganda hindi kailangan ng makeup” bullshit. I roll my eyes so hard every time I hear that I think I’ve seen my brains a couple of times. Grow up, guys. Please lang. But on second thought, I just remembered that I do not give two shits.

Lastly, alam ko hindi ako nag iisa. To my friends with whom I share the same passion, push lang natin to mga bes! I know it’s a long shot but these things take time and a lot of work para ma-achieve. Sabi nga, “EVERY ACCOMPLISHMENT STARTS WITH THE DECISION TO TRY.” So, just go for it.

TARALETS? 😉
